‘You always look so cool. The man in the cool, coloured shirts..’

GREAT GATSBY

I love the 1920’s influences from the past, and bringing in past trends and the idea of incorporating them into the new modern fashion collections nowadays. Past trends continuously coming back and returning is the way forward for modern fashion.

I have been waiting to see the new Great Gatsby film starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Carey Mulligan. Finally saw it last night and loved it! The fast paced era of the 1920’s was executed perfectly with bright sensuous shades of colour and heavily decorative textures throughout the film from the interior sets, to tea party scenes and of course the costumes! I loved the over the top set designs, huge grand parties and embellished dresses! The Flapper dress era of the 1920’s is definitely one of my favourite, would love to time travel back and explore the trends and lifestyle then! I loved the party scenes in particular because there was so much to look at and watch with the clothes, colour, dances and music. The sense of fairy-tale fun and imagination is portrayed throughout. I also loved the tea party scene with all the flowers surrounding the three main characters, the scene looked stunning! The reviews haven’t been too good and everyone has there own Gatsby idea, but I loved it!

Deadline day today! handed in my final project & the presentation went well. I’m pleased with my final outcome and sketchbook devlelopments in particular the sampling and working on mannequin! Above are a few images from my portfolio of my final four outfits in my collection. If I were to improve or change anything I would of liked to of made a lightweight jacket to go alongside the piece or made the skirt fuller. The skirt has a slight stretch in it, I would of liked to of had more time to look at a wider choice of fabrics, something to think about for next time! I quite like how all my projects this year link together in some way potentially under my brand HayleyJoyce (branding project) such as my cultural Hand-crafted project, Necklines T-Shirt Project and this Attention to Detail project.
