I’m currently in my second week of my 2 week placement at Bespoke London fashion week designer Henrietta Ludgate! Henrietta Ludgate, a luxury womenswear label, has received overwhelming praise and recognition from highly respected media, industry and high end retailers – leading to it being stocked globally. The label sits alongside cutting edge luxury designs from Holly Fulton and Christopher Kane. Loving it so much i’m going to stay another week! Based in Bayswater, London i’m working in the Work-Shop Studio so its both a functioning work shop where all the patterns, toiles and garments are sewn and made as well as at the front of the shop are the garments and collections being sold at retail prices. The collections are beautifully laid out around the arty studio with pieces of Artwork by Sam Birch hung on the walls, giving it a warm and welcoming work atmosphere.

Last week was very busy, my work included administration tasks, accounting, marketing, press, assistant, and sales tasks. Getting to experience everything has been a real benefit throughout my time and not just sticking to a niche area. I’ve really enjoyed getting involved in all the areas of running a fashion brand and creating collections and feel like i’m learning alot! There’s definitely more to running a brand than you think! I’ve learnt about the pattern making and fittings producing one off made to measure pieces for clients and customers as well as taking part in fittings. Managing the workshop included talking to customers, making sure they are okay and helping them with what they want. Taking calls and managing administration, emailing clients, magazines, interviews, fabric sourcing, all have really helped me to become more independent and take control in industry situations!

More info to come!

Now in her eighth collection, Henrietta is a true champion of British craftsmanship, ensuring that all her materials are sourced and manufactured within the British Isles.
She has already garnered an impressive number of awards from highly respected institutions, which included receiving the E.F.F ‘Fashion Innovation Award’, for London Fashion Week Spring Summer 2010 – her breakout collection as an independent designer and first time at LFW.
Henrietta also won ‘Young Designer of the Year’ at the 2011 Scottish Fashion Awards.
Henrietta Ludgate has dressed many celebrities and has been featured in magazines such as, Vogue UK, Vogue Italia, and Harper’s Bazaar.
Along with LFW, her collections have been shown at the international fashion weeks of Milan, Paris, Athens and New York’s Tartan Week.

The Autumn/Winter collection sees the continuance of Henrietta Ludgate’s signature style of perfectly crafted, strong structural shapes with minimalist lines in soft, luxurious British fabrics. The combination of sharp lines and drapes follow the contours of the body perfectly. This season inspiration was drawn from Googie architecture – futurism through modernism.
The signatures of Googie style lie in sweeping arches and hard angles, cantilevered roofs and bold colors, and its most relative homage to the Space Age. Curvaceous, geometric shapes and the essence of glass, steel and neon are visible throughout the collection. Helter skelters, flying saucers, atoms and mathematical parabolas embody the shape of the Autumn / Winter collection.
